Both packs are multi-material and multi-layer to increase shelf life of the product and provide a barrier protection against moisture, odours, and UV light.

Additional Information:
Wheat germ is the rolled and flaked endosperm created by the first milling of wheat grain. Wheat germ is the nutrient-rich core of the wheat kernel. Wheat bran, the outer layer of the grain is typically rich in fibre and nutrients. Part of a wheat kernel and is responsible for helping the plant reproduce and spawn new wheat. Although it’s removed from most processed wheat products, it is a major nutritional component of whole grain wheat.

Wheatgerm, along with the husk, is removed from refined wheat products — like those that use white flour — so that they can be stored for longer.

Wheatgerm is added to some granolas, cereals, and cornbread, and it’s also available raw. It is a popular topping for fruit pies, yogurt, ice cream, and hot or cold cereal.

*Please note:  Wheat germ has a very limited shelf live.  Typically 1-2 months.

Storage Advice:
Whole grains still need be stored carefully since the healthy oils are found largely in the germ of whole grains. Refined grains spoil more quickly than intact grains, because their protective bran layer has been broken up and oxygen can reach all parts of the grain.

Both whole grains and refined grains can be negatively affected by heat, light and moisture.  Because each grain has a different fat content, their shelf lives vary. In general, follow these rules of thumb:

  • Store in an airtight container.
  • Store in a cool, dark cupboard.
  • Store away from direct heat or sunlight.
  • Keep lid tightly closed when not in use.
  • Suitable for home freezing.
