Additional Information:
With 9 grams of fiber per 100-gram serving, millet supports healthy and regular digestion. It may also help resolve issues like diarrhoea and supports healthy gut flora to prevent peptic ulcers and reduce your risk of colon cancer. Millet is rich in catechins such as quercetin which boost liver and kidney function.

Unlike most other grains, this versatile, gluten free grain is alkaline, which makes it easy to digest and helps balance the body’s natural tendency towards acidity. Our Millet flour has a light, mild flavour, making it perfect for sweet or savoury baking. It lends a delicate cake-like crumb to your baked goods.

Millet is considered a “nutri-cereal” because it is high in fiber and protein and rich in B vitamins, (especially niacin, B6 and folic acid), phosphorus, manganese (a trace mineral that acts as an antioxidant), and may benefit people suffering with arthritis, inflammation, PMS and poor bone health.

Storage Advice:
Refined flour is made from the endosperm of wheat with the bran and germ removed. It results in a fine, soft flour that’s light or white in colour. Refined flours include all-purpose, white, bread, cake, and self-rising flour.

Whole-grain flours are made from all three parts of the wheat or grain: germ, endosperm, and bran. This means the flour is high in fiber and nutrition, but it also means whole wheat flour will spoil faster. Whole grain flours included whole wheat, oat, rice, rye, nut (like almond flour).

The best way to tell if flour is rancid is by smell. If the flour has a musty, dusty smell or a sour smell, then it is past its prime. If it smells like flour should smell, then it is safe to use. Do not combine new and old packages of flour since it will shorten the shelf life of the new flour.

Some benefits of proper food storage include eating healthier, cutting food costs and helping the environment by avoiding waste.

Here are some tips for maximising the shelf:

  • Store in an airtight container.
  • Store in a cool, dark cupboard.
  • Store away from direct heat or sunlight.
  • Suitable for home freezing.
  • Keep lid tightly closed when not in use.
