Additional Information:
Phoenix dactylifera, commonly known as date or date palm, is a flowering plant species in the palm family, Arecaceae, cultivated for its edible sweet fruit.

First grown between the Tigris & Euphrates, this amber-fruited palm is one of the oldest cultivated fruits, renowned for longevity (and also for high sugar content).

The benefits of dates include relief from constipation, intestinal disorders, heart problems, anaemia, sexual dysfunctions, diarrhoea, abdominal cancer, and many other conditions. Dates are also good for gaining weight. They are rich in several vitamins, minerals and fibre too. These delicious fruits contain oil, calcium, sulphur, iron, potassium, phosphorous, manganese, copper and magnesium which are all beneficial for health. Some health specialists have said that eating one day per day is necessary for a balanced and healthy diet.

The massive health benefits of dates have made them one of the best ingredients for muscle development. People consume them in several ways, such as mixing the paste of the dates with milk, yoghurt or with bread or butter to make them even more delicious. The paste is beneficial for both adults and children, especially during a time of recovery from injury or illness.

According to a modern medical survey, it is now accepted that dates are useful in preventing abdominal cancer. Muslims break their fast by eating them and water according to their cultural traditions. This also helps avoid overeating of food once the fast is over. When the body begins to absorb the high nutritional value of the dates, feelings of hunger are pacified. Also, the nervous system can get a lot of help from consuming dates, since they have significant amounts of potassium.

Dates are one of the best sweet and versatile foods that can regulate the digestive process. It can significantly boost energy levels in people within half an hour of consuming it. The American Cancer Society recommends an intake of 20-35 grammes of dietary fibre per day, which can be supplied through dates. It is also said that taking one date per a day will help you to maintain your eye health all your life.

Although all care is taken to remove pits (fruit stones), it is possible some pit parts may remain in the product; please ensure they are inspected prior to use.

Storage Advice:
Some benefits of proper food storage include eating healthier, cutting food costs and helping the environment by avoiding waste.

Dried fruits are simply fruits with the water removed. This makes your fruit last much, much longer than if they were fresh. Since most of the water is removed from the fruit the flavour is intensified, the storage is simplified and the shelf life is greatly lengthened. The drying process can be done naturally by the sun or in a dehydrator (or less often in a slow oven). Because of its vibrant taste and proven health benefits, like no fat and high fibre, dried fruit is one of the easiest and most popular ways to eat fruit. It is especially popular with hikers and cyclists.

How long does dried fruit last?
When properly stored, the shelf life of dried fruits such as raisins (dried grapes), craisins (dried cranberries), dried apricots and many other dried fruits will last well beyond their best by date. Remember that dried fruit, like some other fruits, usually has a best by date and not a use by date or expiration date. Because of this distinction, you may safely consume dried fruit even after the best before date has lapsed.

You can help dried fruit stay fresh longer by storing it in your refrigerator or in your pantry in a tightly closed container to keep out moisture and other contaminants. Some fruits, like prunes which are moister than many of the others, enjoy the moisture of the fridge and taste better cold.

For a long-term option, you can also store your dried fruit in a freezer. Freezing is supposed to be an indefinite form of storage, but after varying amounts of time, most foods start to break down or develop freezer burn. Properly dried fruit seems to be an exception – it really does freeze well for extended amounts of time if properly sealed with an airtight sealer.
