Cacao Nibs Aka Cacao beans, seeds or nuts, Cacao Nibs originated in South America where they were revered by ancient cultures and often used as currency! Cacao is the most complex food substance on Earth and has the highest antioxidant concentration of any food.
The Cacao Bean is the dried and fully fermented seed of the Theobroma Cacao tree from which cocoa solids and cocoa butter are extracted. The raw beans are selected for the finest quality and fermented to reduce their initial bitterness. After cleaning the dried beans in natural water, they are peeled and their core extracted to be broken into “nibs”. The production process employed helps to preserve the nutritional value of the cacao without using additives. The tree bears its flowers and subsequently pods on the main trunk. Storage Advice:
Refined flour is made from the endosperm of wheat with the bran and germ removed. It results in a fine, soft flour that’s light or white in color. Refined flours include all-purpose, white, bread, cake, and self-rising flour.
Whole-grain flours are made from all three parts of the wheat or grain: germ, endosperm, and bran. This means the flour is high in fiber and nutrition, but it also means whole wheat flour will spoil faster. Whole grain flours included whole wheat, oat, rice, rye, nut (like almond flour).
The best way to tell if flour is rancid is by smell. If the flour has a musty, dusty smell or a sour smell, then it is past its prime. If it smells like flour should smell, then it is safe to use. Do not combine new and old packages of flour since it will shorten the shelf life of the new flour.
