Additional Information:
Arborio rice is an Italian short-grain rice. It is named after the town of Arborio, in the Po Valley, which is situated in the main growing region. Arborio is also grown in Arkansas, California, and Missouri in the United States. When cooked, the rounded grains are firm, and creamy and chewy compared to other rice, due to their higher amylopectin starch content. It has a starchy taste and blends well with other flavours. Arborio rice is often used to make risotto; other suitable varieties include Carnaroli, Maratelli, Baldo, and Vialone Nano. Arborio rice is also used for rice pudding..
Storage Advice:
Some benefits of proper food storage include eating healthier, cutting food costs and helping the environment by avoiding waste.
Most types of uncooked rice have an indefinite shelf life. The main challenge is keeping it free of dust, insects and other contaminants. White, wild, Arborio, jasmine and basmati rice all have an indefinite shelf life when kept free from contaminants. The exception is brown rice — thanks to its higher oil content, it won’t keep nearly as long, usually up to 6 months in the pantry and up to 2 years if frozen.
